Meet the Staff

DIANE

Registered Dental Hygienist

I was born and raised in Winchester, Virginia and graduated from James Wood High School. I have worked as a dental hygienist for many years at different offices but when I joined this practice in 2004, I immediately knew I had found the place where I belong. The most important part of my job is educating and helping my patients understand the importance of good oral health. The thing that I enjoy the most here at this clinic is working with such great teammates. Everybody here makes working and going to the dentist so much more enjoyable.

I am married with two grown sons and several grandchildren – too many to count. I truly enjoy my family and all of their activities keep me very busy!

Lori

Registered Dental Hygienist

I have been working here since 2002. Prior to returning to school and earning my degree in Dental Hygiene, I had a career in medicine as a Surgical Tech. I consider myself very thorough and dedicated and try to let my enthusiasm rub off on my patients as much as possible. I love working with everybody here. We get along great and really come together as a team to give all of our patients the best possible care and experience.

I am married and have three terrific adult children that keep me very busy! I live on a lovely farm in western Frederick County where I get to enjoy spending time with my horses and all of my farm animals.

Before that I attended Lord Fairfax Community College in Middletown and received a general studies associates degree there in 2012. When I am not working, I like to sew, read, and spend time with my husband and our yellow lab. I love dental hygiene and meeting new people!

JENNA

Registered Dental Hygienist

I first became interested in the dental field while working at an orthodontist office in 2010. From there, I became a dental assistant until I graduated from dental hygiene school in 2014. My highest priority is patient comfort. I strive to create an environment that is stress free and alleviate any dental anxiety, while delivering individualized oral hygiene care.

When I’m not working I love to spend time with my growing toddler, husband, and dogs. I look forward to meeting you at your next dental cleaning!

Lisa

Registered Dental Hygienist

I have been a dental hygienist for 17 years. Previously, I was a registered respiratory therapist. I strive to make patients feel relaxed while providing knowledge towards their oral care needs.

My husband and I reside in Middletown, VA. We enjoy exercise, traveling, skiing and outdoor activities. I love to escape to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

Makenah Harrington

Registered Dental Hygienist

Hello, my name is Makenah Harrington. I am a native of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia and a true “small town girl.” I take great pride in my small town upbringing and plan to do the same with my own family one day. I am a 2021 graduate of the Sarah Whitaker Glass School of Dental Hygiene at West Liberty University. I chose dental hygiene as my profession because I feel a smile can change the way someone goes about their day. At Smiles of Virginia, my goal is to help patients create and maintain a healthy and happy smile. After all, “Nothing you wear is more important than your smile.” Before attending WLU, I played softball for the Lady Catamounts at WVU Potomac State College. While my softball days are over, in my free time, I like crafting, spending time with family and friends, and baking. I also love going to the beach and kayaking at the river.

MICHELLE

Dental Assistant

Ever since I was a little girl I was fascinated about teeth. I would even play “dentist” with my grandpa. I am now an experienced dental assistant with knowledge and skills of different specialties under my belt. People are becoming more and more aware about how their teeth can effect their overall health. And it is my job and pleasure to inform our patients and educate them on good oral hygiene not just for them but for their families as well. During treatments I like to make our patients feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible. I want our patients leaving happily satisfied and knowing that we took care of them every step of the way!

I am originally from San Pedro, California where the sun is always shining. In my free time I love being around my family and friends and just enjoying the moments that we can share.

DIANA

Dental Assistant

I moved to West Virginia from Laurel, MD in 2000. I worked as a dental assistant for 5 years while attending the University of Alabama Birmingham to become a Dental Hygienist. I worked as a Dental Hygienist for 10 years before returning to work as a Dental Assistant to play with better toys. Over the years I’ve worked in numerous dental offices from general dentistry to oral surgery and performed various functions in those positions.

I enjoy living on the river in the mountains of West Virginia with my spouse and four fur babies.

Sonya

Business Manager

I have been in the dental profession for almost 40 years. I have enjoyed learning everything from assisting to office management. The dental professional has changed a lot in those years and I am thrilled by the change. At Smiles of Virginia we strive to learn every day. Our goal is to help you benefit from the changing knowledge, to make sure that you understand the need for your treatment and to make you as comfortable as possible while we treat you. I truly enjoy knowing that we are giving our patients the best treatment possible.

I moved from my home of Alaska to Virginia in 2016 to follow my children and be close to my grandchildren whom I adore. I love exploring Virginia and discovering all the great adventures to be had here.

Ann

Registered Nurse

I have been a registered nurse for 28 years. After earning my degree at The University of Texas, Austin I was originally a neonatal intensive care nurse. I have been in Virginia since 2002 and have worked NICU as well as other areas. I have been at Smiles for almost two years as the nurse assistant. I love being able to help people feel more relaxed when receiving the dental treatments they need. Anxiety plays a very large role in the need for sedation dentistry. I’m there with patients as they go to sleep and then when they wake up and breath a huge sigh of relief. It is rewarding to be part of a team that enables people to be more comfortable at the dentist.

My husband and I have three adult children still in the area whom we adore. We love travel, good Texas bar-b-q, any sports team from Texas, and our five fur-babies at home.

Amanda

Dental Assistant

I am originally from Kernersville, NC, but moved to Virginia in 1996 with my mom, dad, and younger brother. I graduated from Shenandoah High School and then went into dental assisting. I have 12 years of experience as a chairside dental assistant and joined this office in 2014. I love to have fun with my patients and get to know them and their families. People are often nervous going to the dentist and I love making them laugh to calm them down. When people leave with a happy smile, I know we did a good job!

When I am not in the office I enjoy being outside at the lake, riding four-wheelers and playing with my dogs. I also enjoy cooking.

KARINA

Dental Assistant

I’m the new girl in town, originally from Oregon, but I love it here in Winchester! Everyone at this office has made me feel so at home! When I was earning my Certified Dental Assistant Certificate in 2017, I knew I wanted a career where I can help people. Here at Smiles of Virginia I can grow as a dental assistant and help make a difference in your smile.

At home it’s me and my husband and we love to cook, watch movies, go hiking, and kayaking.

Abby

Dental Assistant

I started dental assisting when I was 18 and have enjoyed it ever since! In 2014, for 3 years, I worked as a dental laboratory technician learning how to make crowns, bridges, and removable prosthetics. I love interacting with patients, making sure that they are comfortable and at ease in the dental office and that they receive quality care.

When I am not working, I love to cook, spend time with family and friends, and going places with my husband!

Amy

Receptionist

I was born and raised in Winchester, VA and recently moved to Berryville, VA with my fiancé and our pet Beta fish, Phyn. I joined Smiles of Virginia in 2018 as a patient care coordinator, but have worked in the dental field since 2012. I have experience as a dental assistant, an oral surgery assistant, and as a pediatric hygienist.

My favorite part of my job is meeting new people. My goal is to create a comfortable atmosphere for those with dental anxiety.

In my free time, I enjoy taking Polaroid pictures, painting with acrylics, embroidering, reading, and journaling. I am an avid thrift shopper and go to yard sales and estate sales every week.

NANCI

Receptionist

I am probably the first person you will see as you enter the front door. I will greet you, make you feel welcome like it was your own home, and help you with necessary paperwork. And whether you are a new patient or have been with us for many years, I take pride in making you feel like you are part of our family right away. Each patient is unique and I always love hearing about their lives since their last visit.

I am married and have a grown daughter with the sweetest toddler grandson – if you want to see pictures to prove it, I will happily show you! I enjoy spending time with my family and church activities. I also love my two cats very dearly.
