Dr. King has been a lifelong resident of the great state of Virginia. Born and raised in beautiful SW Virginia, Dr. King attended public schools until he graduated from high school and began his collegiate career at Hampden-Sydney College where he earned a BA in Economics. He followed his parent’s footsteps into education, teaching elementary school for a few years until his return to academics at Virginia Tech where he earned a MA in Elementary Education. Dr. “Bob” returned to the classroom, teaching middle school math and science until further education called him away. He attended VCU -Medical College of Virginia and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, cum laude, in 1985.
Dr. King practiced all phases of general dentistry for two years in Purcellville, Virginia prior to coming to Winchester in 1987, when he purchased the practice of long-time dentist and friend to many, Leon Slavin, D.D.S. Dr. King is immensely pleased and proud that many, many of Dr. Slavin’s patients remain with the practice today.
When Dr. King is not enjoying the practice of dentistry, he can usually be found on his farm in northeastern Frederick County. For many years, he and his family have raised sheep, Maremma Livestock Guard Dogs, & herding dogs. It would not be an overstatement to say that Dr. King loves his sheep & dogs! When not on the farm, he is often at Deep Creek Lake in Western Maryland, enjoying the four beautiful seasons and relaxing with his family!
On Sundays, Dr. King can be found in the choir at Calvary Church of the Brethren, singing in his full tenor voice and teaching Sunday School. He is also very active in other aspects of church life at Calvary: Education Committee, VBS, Fall Bazaar, etc.
Dr. King has a big place in his heart for all animals. For this reason, he is an enormous supporter of the Winchester-Frederick County Animal Shelter and strongly urges everyone to adopt a deserving pet!
Last, but not least, Dr. King is a big sports fan. He is especially fond of his Redskins and is a faithful, loyal fan!
